Nick Miller Scientific Services

Life sciences services in experimental design, data analysis and communication

About me

I have been a scientist and educator for 25 years. I have been lucky to work on and lead a broad portfolio of life science research in labs throughout the United Sates and Europe. I have published over 40 scientific papers and was a Subject Editor for the journal Environmental Entomology for eight years. I have developed and taught classes at the University of Nebraska, the University of California Davis, the University of Illinois Chicago and Illinois Tech, where I was a tenured Associate Professor.

I love helping others design and analyze experiments, and craft effective scientific communications to tell the stories of their discoveries.

Services

Biostatistics

I offer a range of bespoke services including:

  • Experimental design
  • Power analysis
  • Statistical analysis of field, lab and greenhouse studies

I work closely with my clients to ensure experiments meet their needs and budgets and their data target their questions of interest.

Bioinformatics

Sequencing experiments can get expensive. I can help you design sequencing studies that get you the answers you need in a cost-effective way. If you have sequencing data I can help you make sense of it, including:

  • Genome and metagenome assembly and annotation
  • Variant calling
  • Gene expression
  • Epigenetics

Science Communication

Whether you are preparing an elevator pitch or writing a paper, I can help you craft your message to reach your audience. I offer individual coaching and classes for groups.
